Symptoms of Common Pituitary Disorders
Pituitary Tumors- It is an abnormal growth in the pituitary gland. Tumors compress surrounding tissues which can affect vision and even cause headaches. Most of the pituitary tumors is non cancerous.
Growth Hormone Deficiency- It arises due to the less secretion of somatotrophin (GH) from the pituitary gland. It affects growth in children. In adults it can cause muscular weakness, tiredness, decreased bone mass, and obesity.
Hypopituitarism- In this condition pituitary gland does not produce efficient amount of one or more hormones. Lack of the hormones does not allow organs to work properly.
Hyperprolactinemia- It is a disorder in which pituitary releases large amount of prolactin hormone. Prolactin hormone stimulates milk production in women. This leads to spontaneous flow of breast milk, abnormal menstrual period, infertility and erectile dysfunction in men.
Empty Sella Syndrome- Sella Turcica is a bony structure that encloses and protects pituitary gland. Empty sella syndrome is a state in which the pituitary glands contract or become flattened.
